![]() Smooth Grooves: A Delicious Concoction Mixed by DJ J-Smooth
From 2002-2006 my souljunction crew (Darin, Benson, myself & DJ J-Smooth) collaborated on throwing a series of small one off parties in LA and we released a handful of music compilations (many of which are my releases already found on my podcast page). Eventually DJ J-Smooth & I came together to release a handful of J-Smooth's previously unreleased house music mixes. He provided the mixes....all done live in one take. No mistakes...no editing. I provided the visual concept & design of the graphics, an extension of my own "Candy Box Cover" Series, pressed them up and released them on my own dime. Just like we did with my compilations we pressed up hundreds of these things and distributed them hand by hand to anyone that would take them. This is just one of our house music releases and it very well may be one of my all-time favorite mixes to drive to...it's filled with a collection of deep, soulful house tracks that are all.... ![]() Originally Released: 2006 What started out as exercise in digital digging, thanks to www.the-breaks.com in the quest to find the original songs sampled for Hip Hop joints, it quickly steamrolled into something completely different. After finding gem after gem after gem and coming up with so much material, I ended up throwing it on a disc just to listen to it all. That process itself, let to a basic arrangement which evenutally culminated with what we have here. Expressions of Rhythm: Volume II...A finely aged collection of luxurious beats, rare grooves & lush stereophonics Happy Listening! From laid back downtempo joints to broken beat gems and uptempo soulful jams, it's a cornucopia of soulful & rhythmic goodness. As with all my compilations, I try to pick classic sounds with timeless qualities. Mind you, this was my take on progressive soul music in 2006...Although one new track has just been added, overall, I feel it sounds just as refreshing as it did when I first put this out 4 years ago...I hope these sounds are refreshing to your ears & spirit as well... Happy Listening! Sincerely, idea --------------------------------------

![]() Originally Released: 2002 Background on All Hits: SuperSoulSh*t Volume I: Ahhhh, The Next Level: Hawaii's original Hip Hop show; College Radio KTUH 90.3 FM, Friday Night, Midnight to 3am... The 5 semesters we broadcast out of that dark cozy corridor known as Hemingway Hall rm. 202, on the University of Hawaii @ Manoa Campus were truly something special. From Spring 1995 to Summer 1997, we dug in our crates & cd books to give you the best Non-Commercial Hip Hop available. We played Biggie before he became an icon & martyr. We had Common Sense before he was simply Common. We tried to force-feed The Roots & Outkast, Bahamadia & Gangstarr down every listeners earhole. Busta Rhymes, Redman, De La Soul, Pharcyde, Nas, Mobb Deep & A Tribe Called Quest were in our permanent rotation before any other station in Hawaii ever thought of playing these artists. Our old school hours were classic like shell-top Adidas & our occasional late-night jazz/soul hour was simply divine. Our faithful listeners still remember this; those herb smoke filled, late night sessions eventually became stuff of legend. For those of you who look to recapture those precious moments, we present to you, ALL HITS: SuperSoulSh*t. This is a special compilation near and dear to our hearts as it perfectly replicates one of The Next Level's favorite Late Night jazz/soul hours. This is the kind of set that would have the folks wrapping up their parties in the dorms & on-campus apartments something to wind down and get busy to.... Feel free to do the same... Happy Listening, beats & blessings idea -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just The Two Of Us - Grover Washington Jr & Bill Withers

![]() Originally Released: 2002 "This mixtape is quite possibly the most flawless mix of Hip Hop and soul I have ever heard. It's basically a collection of songs that pair a bunch of ill emcees on jazzy, soulful tracks with R&B singers that can actually sing.
Comments: ALLHITS®, the Original Celebrated Curiously Hot Organic Hip Hop Hits®, is a specially arranged compilation of Hip Hop songs many times hotter than today's ordinary commercial music. The recipe for this sound is derived from the generous use of phat beats, complex lyrics and real mc's developed by true Hip Hop heads, b-boys & mc's during the late 1980's. This era, which is often referred to as the "Golden Age of Hip Hop", was characterized by a style, content, and consciousness rarely exhibited in today's shallow, materialistic, and relatively uncreative mainstream rap music. Despite the over-commercialization and saturation of rap music in a market driven by fickle teen dollars, there are still some artists who have managed to maintain the integrity, credibility and tradition of this bygone era. Most of these same performers come from a musical lineage that can be traced back to many of the early Hip Hop pioneers. Here we present to you a sampling of some of the best and the brightest talent that Hip Hop has to offer, blazing a trail back to a time when it was all simply about the music. Happy Listening Sincerely -idea- --------------------------------------------------- 1 Jill Scott feat. Mos Def Love Rain (Remix)
